This is our last video post for the outdoor living space in Midlothian, Virginia. The porch is built and painted, landscape lights have been installed and the pool has already been kid tested and approved! All that’s left is the landscaping and the client’s finishing touches.
Stay tuned for next week’s post packed FULL of gorgeous photos of this finished space where we will share overall photos down to the littlest details!
The homeowners of this project came to us because they had outgrown their living space. They love the charm of their house built in the early 1900s and didn’t want to leave their neighborhood. Over the next couple months, Design Consultant Alex Van Nuys will take you through the remodeling process as we watch this backyard transformation! Stay tuned for next week’s post where we return to the job site for even more changes!
Below are the before pictures of this family room addition. The current screened in porch was getting minimal use due to the hot summers and long pollen seasons. The patio was showing some obvious wear and was not large enough for outdoor entertaining.
As the weather becomes warmer, the clients in Midlothian, Virginia are even more anxious to enjoy their pool and outdoor living space. Since our last video update, we have the porch roof built, the electrical work is roughed-in and we have started on the pool deck and the pool contractor has started on the pool. As you can see in the video, we have backfilled and compacted the gravel around the pool in preparation for the patio.
Make sure you check back next week where we show you the finished porch, patio and pool and launch our second video project with Design Consultant Alex Van Nuys.

We are about two months into the project and are starting to see major changes! The foundation and fireplace are in place for the porch and the pool is underway. We are excited to see the space take shape and we know the clients are eager to have their pool ready for the summer. We only have a few more videos left before the big unveiling, so stay tuned.
It’s demolition day! In order to get started on this outdoor living space, we must first start with a clean slate. Our crews are busy tearing down the existing deck before they can dig the footings for the new deck.
Snow aside ; the photo below was taken during the pre-construction measurements. It is a great before representation. This photo rendering was created during the design process. It helped the clients, and now you, visualize how the final product will look. Be sure to check back next week, construction on the patio and pool will be in full swing!
We are excited to announce the launch of our new Lane Homes & Remodeling blog! In addition to weekly posts about all things remodeling, we are going to take you on a video tour through some of our projects from start to finish.
Now let’s kick off the first post with a video! These clients are located in Midlothian, Virginia. Their goal when designing this project was to have a “staycation.” They envisioned a large covered porch veranda with a fireplace, along with a beautiful and inviting patio and pool area. Through our design build process, we were able to show them a visual rendering of their dream backyard.
