Director of Production
We’re looking for the Best of the Best!
Award-winning residential remodeling company, Lane Homes & Remodeling, is looking for a skilled, multi-talented individual to serve as the Director of Production.
This full-time, exempt, salaried position reports directly and is accountable to the President. Normal working hours are 7:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. with a one-hour lunch break; however, due to the nature of the position, considerable flexibility is required. This full-time position is eligible for vacation, holidays, medical, dental and retirement. Professional dress and appearance are expected.
General Description:
The Director of Production has primary responsibility for seeing that each project manager meets these five goals:
- Job costs come in at or under the estimated budget
- The job is completed on schedule
- The client is left highly satisfied and likely to refer others to us
- Company quality standards are met on all jobs
- Company annual production goals are met
The Director of Production is an important part of the management team that finds solutions that enable the company to meet these critical goals on all projects.
The Director of Production directs all field employees, subcontractors, materials suppliers, inspectors, and others in the efforts needed to achieve these goals. This includes hiring, firing, training, and coaching field employees, as well as organizing and scheduling the projects.
Regular Duties:
- Reviews final plans and specifications to ensure that no problems will arise in filing for and obtaining building permits.
- Files for and obtains building permits
- Field checks each job sold and checks the cost breakdown to determine whether the job can be done to the company’s established quality level at the specified profit and to identify any potential problem areas.
- Sets up jobs accepted by the company as ready for construction.
- Negotiates prices with subcontractors and suppliers. Writes work orders, and maintains specifications/requisition records of these activities for each job.
- Meets with the salesperson and the customers in a pre-construction conference to discuss scope, potential problems, and decisions made by the customers.
- Notifies Sales and Design/Drafting departments if actual costs consistently vary from estimated costs by plus or minus 5%.
- Maintains an adequate number of qualified subcontractors. Develop list of subcontracts for use by Project Managers, Sales, Drafting & Design, etc.
- Develop and enforce job site safety and cleanliness standards.
- Review and approve production personnel timesheets.
- Approve, in advance, any production personnel overtime.
- Approve, in advance, any production personnel vacation request
Throughout Construction:
- Maintains communication with each client.
- Submits prompt requests for invoices.
- Takes responsibility for all routine change orders. Makes sure those orders carry fixed prices and are signed by client prior to start of work. Ensures Sales and Accounting receive copies of all change orders initiated by Production. When change orders involve substantial work, the production manager coordinates with the sales department on the pricing and selling.
- Conducts a pre-completion walk-though with the project manager to prepare a quality control punch-list. Expedites the completion of the punch-list.
- Participates in a final completion walk-through with the salesperson, client, and project manager. Expedites the completion of the punchlist.
- Approves all requests for payment to subcontractors and suppliers. Verifies that they are properly allocated to a job and job phase, priced accurately, and that the invoices reflect actual shipments.
Ongoing:
- Maintains an adequate work force to meet the needs of the company. This responsibility includes hiring and training of the labor force and the authority to fire as well (with approval of the Vice President). Performance evaluations will be done after first 90 days, first 6 months, then annually after that.
- Participate in bi-weekly staff meeting
- Reviews job cost reports bi-weekly for all jobs and checks whether actual costs exceed estimated costs in any area. When there are cost overruns, researches where and why and puts an action plan in place to correct the problem and avoid such overruns on future jobs. The Director of Production is responsible for creating a plan with the project manager on how future money will be saved on the job that is overrunning.
- Maintains all vehicles, tools, and equipment in excellent operating condition through regularly scheduled maintenance and prompt repairs when necessary.
- Submits to management a monthly production report including progress on each job, percentage of completion report, estimated total dollar volume produced, and an estimated remaining gross profit on each job.
- Devises and recommends incentive programs for individual crew members to maximize performance.
- Review customer evaluation questionnaires, detect any patterns of dissatisfaction, develop plan to resolve these issues.
- Get quotes from subcontractors and have subcontractors committed to anticipated schedule prior to start of project.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Project Manager
Award-winning residential remodeling company, Lane Homes & Remodeling, is looking for a skilled, multi-talented individual for this hands-on Project Manager position.
Primary Responsibilities:
- On-site management of the construction project
- Managing/performing all labor to include:
- demolition
- carpentry
- footings
- framing
- trim
- clean up
- any other labor necessary to successfully complete the project
- Requesting labor support when needed and supervising their work
- Scheduling all subcontractors
Management of projects also involves bringing jobs in/under budget and on schedule while maintaining high-quality standards to ensure client satisfaction.

Lead Carpenter
Award-winning residential remodeling company, Lane Homes & Remodeling, is looking for a skilled, multi-talented individual for this hands-on Lead Carpenter position. The Lead Carpenter plays an important role in the completion and profitability in each project and is the job site representative.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Framing and trim carpentry
- Drywall, painting, and finish trim work
- Cabinetry installation
- Cornice experience is a plus
- Scheduling responsibilities
- Ability to professionally communicate with clients, subcontractors and office staff
