This past February, Lane Homes & Remodeling attended the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) hosted by the National of Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA). Hosted in the Las Vegas Convention Center, the show itself brings together professionals from across the globe to showcase unique products & services and continuing their education from industry leaders. It is 3 full days of advancements in technical innovation combined with marvelous spectacles of kitchen and bath design.

Here’s what each of our design consultants took from their time on the expo:

Bold, bright colors. Walking around the convention center, I was met flashes of reds, yellows, blues, greens, purples; the full color spectrum was on display. Rather than palettes mixed together, individual colors were used to create strong focal points, pulling the eye directly into the exhibit. Each home display was like its own little world with a unique story.

This goes hand-in-hand with a quote I saw on one of the exhibits “The best color is the one that looks good on you.” Similar to clothing, people want spaces that represent themselves and their own personal style. In turn, design conversations become more reflective of what creates someone’s idea home rather than which aesthetic would you like to present yourself to the world.

“Work Station” is the big buzz word for kitchens these days. The sinks I saw at KBIS had many useful features incorporated into its design. Slidable cutting boards with colanders. Rollable drying racks used in and outside the sink. Sets of prepping containers perfect for chopped produce or handy access for salt and pepper. A food lover’s kitchen often has lots of different moving parts. It’s important that we have appliances that keep up with all the delicious recipes we want to make!

Alongside prepping food, there are many conveniences of note that would be beneficial for anyone getting behind the bar. Dedicated holding slots for bar equipment. Embedded circle cutout for sugar or salt rims. Miniature cutting area for garnishes. These are essentials for party planners who love to entertain friends, family, and anyone who scores an invite.

I was thoroughly impressed with the technological innovations we are seeing in appliances, specifically refrigerators! One of the biggest factors to picking the perfect fridge is space. “How much space does it take up in my kitchen?” as well as “How much food am I able to put in it?”Manufacturers know this and they are designing refrigerators with cutting-edge insulation systems. Referred to as SlimTech Insulation Technology, the new design “removed the need for bulky polyurethane foam insulation and reduced the wall thickness by up to 66% – allowing for up to 25% more capacity inside the refrigerator” (Whirlpool). This means you can fit more of the groceries you love in a smaller space that still remains cold and safe. I can’t wait to see when they are released!

Wellness continued as the word for bathroom design, sinking into your skin like bubbles in a relaxing bath. Foliage greeted you across showroom floor. A particular highlight was the inclusion of aromatherapy shower kits. You can add one of these to your existing shower head and infuse scents like tea tree & rosemary, eucalyptus & mint, and chamomile & green tea to your showering experience. (I took home tea tree & rosemary!)

This blended together with an increased showing of eco-friendly mission statements, specifically in regards to water. Naturally, bathrooms will be the highest source of a home’s water consumption; because of this, brands often had signage or displays incorporating initiatives relating to ocean & sea preservation. It’s nice to see that we can clean ourselves, but also our water as well!

KBIS 2024 was a major success! If you want to know more about our KBIS experience, talk to one of our design consultants and see if anything there is a must-have for your next project!
