A two-story addition achieved homeowners’ dreams of additional storage, downstairs laundry, private office space, and a flexible, 2nd floor entertainment space. Through raising walls on each side of the existing structure, an adaptable area to relax with family and friends now sits atop the extended footprint. The 1st floor gained its laundry room, complete with adjustable pull-out drying racks, drop zone for coats and backpacks, and dedicated seating area. An excessively-sized bathroom was scaled back to a jewel box powder room serving as a focal point with continued hardwood floors pointing to bold accent wallpaper.

A 1980s contemporary house on the lake had its dark, dated primary bathroom elevated to spa status. The bathroom’s bright atmosphere is achieved from a combination of natural skylights, the shower’s transom window, and multiple sources of ambient lighting spread throughout the room. An infrared sauna provides a unique, in-home rejuvenation center for the owners to center themselves before venturing out into the day’s activities.

Optimization was essential in the pursuit of a kitchen with multiple zones for cooking, prepping, and eating alongside a central technology hub for studying. Tucking the tech into a custom under-the-stairs alcove allowed for dual islands to meet everyone’s needs while untangling a formerly congested traffic flow. Larger, professional-grade appliances sit comfortably alongside custom cabinetry providing increased storage. Bold, naval blue cabinetry contrasts against golden oak hardwood floors and white quartz countertops, crafting a timeless color palette to be enjoyed for years to come.

Out in the Goochland countryside, this entire house remodel and addition was almost demolished but instead was modernized while still keeping true to its traditional origins. The plan was set to add on new primary suite, laundry room, and powder room while also renovating the basement, kitchen, dining room, two upstairs bathrooms, deck, and screen porch. The clients received everything they wanted with plenty of additional storage, sophisticated color palette, and a spacious floor plan that matches the tranquil comforts found in their own backyard.

This primary bathroom transformation is bright and airy, achieved by removing interior walls to open the floor plan and maximize natural light. Luminous Calacatta marble covers the walls and herringbone-patterned floor, evoking luxury and tranquility. A sculptural freestanding tub anchors the wet-room area which features a spacious shower with marble walls, brushed brass fixtures, and a slip-resistant porcelain floor. Bulky cabinetry and closets were replaced with freestanding vanities, offering ample storage and an elegant, custom look. The result is a serene, luxurious retreat that blends style with function.

This first-floor primary suite addition exudes quiet luxury, combining elegance with accessibility. The bedroom and attached screen porch overlook the wooded backyard and pool area, creating a serene retreat that offers privacy and tranquility. The spacious bathroom layout includes two vanities, two water closets, and two clothes closets, offering ample storage and privacy. The bathroom is designed for comfort and accessibility, with a curbless shower, grab bars, and a large soaking tub.

Residential Detached Structure

Eliminating the existing shed was the first step to create a brand-new pool house, complete with kitchenette, functioning bathroom with shower and changing area, HVAC, and storage room. The structure’s custom three brick blend, a mix of materials sourced partially local and out-of-state, matches seamlessly to the adjacent properties across the homeowner’s estate overlooking the river.

All of this would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of many incredible design consultants, designers, and production staff. They are integral to our ability at Lane Homes to provide high quality design/build services to the people of Central Virginia. Every remodel completed is a uniquely crafted response to what our clients want their home to be. We are proud to continually provide service to homeowners across Richmond and it’s greater communities for over 40 years.
