Creating Your Forever Home

A very common trend that we’ve seen in our clients is their desire to transform their home into a space in which they can happily live forever. Knowing that they have perfectly designed their house to match their dreams is highly fulfilling. For this client, that meant major changes throughout the majority of their home. Having moved in as newlyweds and now living as a busy family of four, they needed a home with a much better flow. Our design team helped them reimagine each room not only to accommodate their life today but to also envision the space as they live there 5, 10, even 15 years from now.

Designing the Layout

Major structural changes were made to this home in order to create a more open space, better for entertaining and overall family involvement in daily activities. By removing the wall that divided the kitchen and dining room, this family more frequently uses the dining room, whereas before it was essentially not used at all! Our team installed a steel beam so that the area could be opened up and made more functional.

Building A Timeless Space

Partnering with Sherwin Williams, we created a cohesive palette throughout the house that marries the family’s casual style with an updated transitional aesthetic. Knowing that they would not want to remodel their home in the future, we helped them make choices that will never go out of style. For example, facing the outdated fireplace with a solid rustic wood beam mantel gives a focal point that mirrors the beauty of the colors chosen for the kitchen. This family was very pleased with the end result of their major project and has already put their new spaces to great use, stating that they’ve had more family game nights in the last few months than in the previous years leading up to the remodel.

Outdoor Living Oasis

Spring, the season of chilly nights and warm days, is the perfect time to sit outside around a fire, roasting marshmallows and enjoying the sounds of nature. Creating an outdoor living space for spring, or any time of year, was the goal for our featured project this month.

Creating a Vision for the Project

From the beginning of this project, the goal was to create an outdoor living space that would be seen as comfortable and welcoming. This client wanted to be able to entertain as much outside as they did inside. In order to achieve this, we knew we needed to create a functional space that would also reflect the timeless updates that these clients wanted. Special touches such as LED lighting built into the seating wall and a sound system integrated throughout their new patio provide a gentle flow from their interior living area to their exterior.

Final Touches that Make All the Difference

In addition to creating more seating space for entertaining, a gas fire pit was added for our clients to be able to host large parties comfortably without feeling confined. This particular project also included the installation of a privacy wall to allow our clients to feel more at ease while relaxing outside. A final touch came in the form of an outdoor shower, which can be utilized after yard work or to rinse off their four-legged family member. The overall goal of this project was to give our clients a feeling of comfort and relief, and we achieved this by listening to the requests of our client and making recommendations to help them along the way

Recent Recognition for Lane Homes & Remodeling

The team at Lane Homes & Remodeling has recently won several awards from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). We are very thankful for these awards and we recognize that they would not be possible without the continual support of you, our clients and friends.

Grand Prize – Entire House

The first of three grand prizes was Entire House. We received this award for a project that consisted of a two-story addition and an expansive remodel of the existing space. The Lane Homes team particular enjoyed this project, as it provided an opportunity to add living space for the client and update their current space. These clients were thrilled about the results of the whole house. They look forward to using their new oversized stove-top to host their annual chili cook-off.

Grand Prize – Residential Bathroom Over $50,000

The second grand prize award was Residential Bathroom over $50,000. Due to water damage, this client decided to update the entire bathroom. Our team removed the unused bathtub and created a water closet in its place, giving the bathroom a sleek look. Their two-person shower was updated with body-jets and a hand-held shower head.

Grand Prize – Residential Exterior Specialty

Our final grand prize for this year was Residential Exterior Specialty. Our design team found this award was especially satisfying because of the additional hoops through which they had to jump. The property is located within the City of Richmond’s historic district, which means that all building plans must go through architectural review. Although our team had to change the original design, our clients forged ahead with the approved plans. Our craftsmen worked hard to give them the space they desired. The 93-year old, original brick walls were utilized to create a 2-car garage, with additional storage.

Runner Up –Residential Addition

Lane Homes & Remodeling also received the runner-up award for Residential Addition. This project was an expansive master suite addition and outdoor living remodel. These clients had already decided they wanted a luxurious first-floor master suite, and our craftsmen and design team worked with this couple to ensure they received the highest quality of work.
